THE GREAT FLOOD

Perhaps the most astonishing event in the Bible is the Great Flood or Deluge which is said to have destroyed mankind. Only Noah and his relatives and selected animals survived as an act of God. This intriguing tale forces the queries of the historical truth of a Great Flood. Would it be possible, a worldwide flood that destroyed mankind?

The biblical tale is very precise in respect of duration and the intensity of the catastrophe. It rained for 40 days, and the entire event from embarking to disembarking lasted a little more than one year. But the exact cause remained unclear. All that is known is that God ordered this disaster. 

However, studying the literature revealed that the biblical tale is not unique, nor is it original. Long before the first phrases of the Bible were written, a comparable tale was used in Sumeria as a dictation exercise in schools. This took place more than a thousand years earlier. That account also referred to a boat and a priviledged family that survived the flood. My further investigations show that in all parts of the world local legends refer to a great flood, or extreme snowfall. 

In the book "Verborgen geheimen van de mensheid" Chapter IX, "De Grote Vloed", I collected and analysed these flood stories. They point towards a cosmic cause. I also tried to relate these stories to ancient catastrophic events as we know them by the climate studies over the last decades. One date in particular catches the eye: around 3150 BC (+/- 50 years) a catastrophe in the Andes struck the earth and had a huge impact all over the world. Ice core analysis shows an enormous event, the cause of which could not be explained. All evidence suggests that this specific year (more or less) was indeed the year of a Great Flood.
