To the south of the Titicaca lake in the sparsely populated Bolivian highlands and near the famous Tiahuanacu, the mysterious temple complex of Puma Punku is found. It has, just like Tiahuanacu, been ruined by earthquakes and human vandalism. For the common tourist, there is hardly anything spectacular at Puma Punke; the site is merely a collection of huge stone blocks. But these stone blocks tell a strange story: the specific shapes can only be produced using advanced techniques such as drilling, milling and casting. Scientific researchers like Kolata (ref. Kolata) are dumbfounded and have no explanations. Presumably, the stone blocks are the remains of a huge, architecturally advanced building. Technical constructions, regarded by architects such as Protzen and Nair (ref. Protzen) as extremely advanced, were applied. It is not known who constructed the complex.
