Sacsayhuaman is situated on top of the hills to the north-west of
Cusco in Peru. The most intruiging is the long
megalithic wall which was built against a hill. It has a zigzag shape and
consists of enormous stones, some more than 3 metres high, and fit exactly into
each other irrespective of their shapes. The wall consists of
three stages and therefore resembles a fortress, but it is not: if it was a
fortress, it would be easy for an attacker to conquer. On top of the hill there
are remains of buildings of which the round foundation is most curious. The
megalithic wall looks out onto a grass plain across which are strange whirled stone masses. A curious staircase has
been carved into these rocks which is known as the “Inca throne”, even though the Inca’s probably
had nothing to do with it. On the opposite side of these rocks the surface of
the soil is such that it is used by children as
chute.
At the other side of the plateau there are unusual rock formations
which seem to have been processed in an unfathomable way. It looks as
though these rocks have been treated with
chemicals or with high temperature, given the unnatural shape of the
rock. There are numerous rectangular indentations that suggest that stone
was removed using a 'snow-plough'-like object. Everything here points to advanced technology, the identities of the
‘ancient engineers’ who constructed all this, remain unknown.
